technologyWise Academy provides practical private and small-group programming and introductory computer science tutoring in Old Ottawa South. All instruction is in person and in English. Beginners are welcome. Sessions are tailored to each student’s goals, experience, and preferred way of learning, with a focus on understanding how programs work, solving problems methodically, and becoming more confident writing and debugging code.

Who it is for
The Academy is aimed primarily at students from the later middle-school years through first-year university. Adult beginners and other learners at a similar level are welcome too. A beginner can follow our introductory programming curriculum, while students with an existing course, assignment, or project can focus sessions on the material they are already working through. We tailor explanations, examples, pacing, and practice to the student's needs and learning goals.
How tutoring works
Sessions can be private one-to-one lessons or small-group lessons with up to three students at a time. We can explain concepts, work through examples, trace programs together, debug code, practise problem-solving techniques, and plan what to study next. Small groups are primarily for students who sign up together, such as siblings or friends who want to learn together. A student may also ask to be matched with other learners. The Academy offers a matched group when enough students have compatible interest, goals, levels, and availability. Students can book a regular weekly time or arrange sessions as needed.
For school and university work, tutoring focuses on learning the material and developing the student's own problem-solving process. The student remains the author of assessed work. Students and instructors follow our Academic Integrity Policy as well as the rules of the student's course, school, college, or university.
Rates, session lengths, and payment
- Private one-to-one lessons: $55 per hour
- Small-group lessons: $45 per student per hour, with up to 3 students
- Sessions can be 60, 90, or 120 minutes and are billed at the applicable hourly rate.
Interac e-Transfer is accepted for payment before or after an in-person lesson, as arranged. Payments made at the office can be made by cheque or cash. Payment arrangements are confirmed when a lesson is booked.
Location, accessibility, and scheduling
Sessions take place at our office in Old Ottawa South, Ottawa. The office level is accessible by elevator, and an accessible washroom is available in the building. The building's private lot provides space for an unhurried passenger drop-off or pickup, including Para Transpo and other accessible transportation. Visitors arrange their own parking. The tutoring room also has space for coats, boots, and other outdoor items during wet or winter weather.
Appointments can run during the day, after school, in the evening, or at other mutually convenient times. Instruction is available in English and takes place in person at the office. We provide exact office and arrival details when arranging the first session.
Academic integrity
Tutoring supports learning, understanding, and the student's own work. For assessed work, the student remains the author of the final solution and follows every rule their school, course, college, or university places on outside assistance, collaboration, tools, and artificial intelligence. Students and instructors follow the technologyWise Academy Academic Integrity Policy.
Booking, cancellations, and late arrivals
- 24 hours or more before a lesson: cancel or reschedule without a fee.
- Less than 24 hours before a lesson: 50% of the scheduled lesson fee.
- No-show: 100% of the scheduled lesson fee.
- Late arrival: the booked end time normally stays the same. When the instructor's schedule permits, we will extend the session so the student can still receive the full booked teaching time, at no additional charge.
- Illness, emergencies, severe weather, or major transportation disruptions: we may waive a late-cancellation fee when the circumstances reasonably call for flexibility.
- If the Academy cancels: the cancellation fee is $0, and we will offer priority rescheduling.
Repeated short-notice cancellations may result in a recurring weekly time being released for other students. For a group lesson, an absent student's cancellation is handled separately; students who attend keep the group rate. If a planned two-person group becomes a one-person lesson with advance notice, the remaining student can choose a private lesson at the private rate or reschedule without a fee.
Instructor screening, first aid, and supervision
All technologyWise Academy instructors have completed a police Vulnerable Sector Check appropriate to their Academy role and hold current Intermediate First Aid certification with CPR-C and AED training. During lessons, the instructor supervises the student. Parents and guardians may leave during a minor student's lesson when the registration and emergency-contact arrangements permit independent attendance.
Instructors provide tutoring rather than medical care. For an illness or injury, the instructor can provide first aid within their training, contact the student's emergency contact, and call emergency services when circumstances require it. Detailed emergency, arrival, departure, and pickup arrangements are completed during registration.
Video security and privacy
The Academy tutoring room uses clearly disclosed video-only security surveillance with audio recording disabled. The system supports student and instructor safety, incident review, and protection of the computers and other equipment kept in the room. Routine access to recordings is limited to the Academy instructor designated to administer the system.
Recordings are ordinarily deleted after 7 days. A specific recording may be preserved longer when it is reasonably required for a reported safety or security incident, an access request, an insurance matter, a legal matter, or a lawful request from authorities. The Academy provides the full video-surveillance policy during registration and posts notice before entry to the recorded room.
